چکیده

We present modeling results for the reprocessed radiation expected from magnetic flares above AGN accretion disks. Relativistic corrections for the orbital motion of the flare and for the curved space-time in the vicinity of the black hole are taken into account. We investigate the local emission spectra, as seen in a frame co-orbiting with the disk, and the observed spectra at infinity. We investigate long-term flares at different orbital phases and short-term flares for various global parameters of the accreting black hole. Particular emphasis is put on the relation between the iron Kα line and the Compton hump as these two features can be simultaneously observed by the Suzaku satellite and later by Simbol-X.

Spectral evolution of magnetic flares and time lags in accreting black hole sources

We present a model for the short timescale spectral variability of accreting black holes. It describes well the time-averaged spectra as well as temporal characteristics such as powerdensity spectrum, time/phase lags, and coherence function of Cygnus X-1. We assume that X/γ-rays are produced in compact magnetic flares at radii <∼ 100GM/c from the central black hole. The tendency for magnetic lo...

The Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer

RXTE has been operating for nearly 2 years and is planning the third. The spacecraft performance has been good and the three instruments are operating well. Observations have been made of the range of targets suitable for RXTE, including such different objects as accreting neutron stars and black holes, stellar flares, and supernova remnants. The goals of studying high time resolution and broad...

Sgr A* in Context: Daily Flares as a Probe of the Fundamental X-ray Emission Process in Accreting Black Holes

Our central Galactic supermassive black hole, Sgr A*, exists mostly in a very stable, extremely low-luminosity (∼ 10LEdd), thermal quiescent state, which is interrupted roughly daily by a brief, nonthermal X-ray flare. Because they are not accompanied by significant changes in the radio wavelengths, the flares make Sgr A* unusual in the context of black holes accreting at slightly higher rates....

Bulk Motion in X-ray Flares near Accreting Black Holes

The weakness of X-ray reflection in Cyg X-1 is suggested to be due to vertical motion of the emitting plasma in the active corona of an accretion disk. A mildly relativistic bulk motion causes a reduction of X-ray emission towards the disk which reflects/reprocesses the incident X-rays. The observed slope of the X-ray spectrum and the amount of reflection can both be explained if the flaring pl...

Flares on the Black Holes

A Kerr black hole can flare quasi-periodically, if it is magnetically connected to the accretion disk. The flares extract the rotational energy of the hole. The flaring occurs because the hole twists the magnetic field lines beyond the threshold of the screw instability. Subject headings: black holes – magnetic fields
